Matia L. Matkovic

Matia has lived in Calgary for most of her life.  She is proud to call this city her home. With more than 17 years of experience in the area of family law, Matia recognizes the importance of making sure that her clients receive the best possible advice regarding not only their rights but also the options they may have to ensure that their children’s interests are addressed and that their needs and the needs are their family are protected well in to the future.

In addition to her litigation practice, Matia is a trained and qualified family law mediator. In 2009 she was appointed as a Dispute Resolution Officer with the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta. Matia understands the importance of helping people find their own answers and resolutions to their family law dispute as that will set the tone for dealing with other issues as they arise in the future.

When resolution through mediation or negotiation is not possible, Matia recognizes that the only option that may be available is to have a decision made by a Court or by an Arbitrator. Matia is an accomplished litigator with experience and success in all levels of Court in Alberta.

Matia believes that education is a cornerstone to providing her clients with the best advice and information regarding their specific issues. Matia has been a speaker for the Legal Education Society of Alberta, she has been a guest lecturer / instructor at the University of Calgary Law School in family law and alternative dispute resolution, a guest lecturer in the alternative dispute resolution program at Bow Valley College and for many years was an instructor at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.

In her spare time, Matia enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She has traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe and recently has become a hopeful but not particularly talented photographer.
