Colleen A. Christie

Colleen graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Law in 2004 and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 2005. Prior to completing her law degree, Colleen graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science, focused in the area of genetics. She moved to Calgary in the summer of 2006 and was called to the Alberta Bar shortly thereafter.

While in law school, Colleen volunteered for Pro Bono Students Canada and the University Law Clinic. She also worked as a summer student with the Manitoba Maintenance Enforcement Program. Colleen completed her articles at the Family Law Office of Legal Aid Manitoba and continued to work there, focusing on protecting the rights of victims of domestic violence.

Starting in 2006, Colleen moved into private practice, specializing in divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, division of property and surrogacy and adoptions.

Colleen volunteers with both the University of Calgary’s Student Legal Assistance and CUPS as often possible. Colleen is also active on the Pro Bono roster, to ensure that she is able to give back to the legal community.

Colleen chose family law because it is, in her opinion the most diverse and challenging area of law. The emotional component brings a new perspective to her practise and ensures that she remains grounded and focused on her client’s needs.

Colleen has appeared at all levels of Court in Alberta, and enjoys both litigation and all forms of alternative dispute resolution. Colleen strives to ensure that her clients choose the best option for them given their particular circumstances.
